A collaborative effort between BlackGinger and Shy the Sun for Ogilvy JHB and Mnet.
My second chance to work with the excellent Shy The Sun team! These two commercials were to be shot entirely in stereoscopic 3D stop motion on miniature model environments with CGI characters added in post. My team produced the miniature sets that appear in all the shots on both commercials.

Once again working from Ree Treweek's design drawings and Art Direction, I wanted to recreate her vision extremely accurately.
In the Firefly TVC We start off at a distinct cottage in the forest then pan across and through the forest to reveal a dam in the moonlight.
I recruited Jason Human and Cristina Salvoldi to help manage the workload
In order to achieve the surrounding forest trees we acquired a truck load of vineyard vines that where recently cut out due to a disease and being sold on the local roadside as firewood.
For the pond set we made the water surface with a sheet of dark blue perspex. Lit from above it simply looks black and reflective. Lit from below in a separate motion control pass it becomes a chroma key blue.
We shot the whole thing in Black Ginger's basement for two weeks using a re purposed car factory arm as a motion control rig.
